STRUCTURE OF CTET PAPER 2 (for classes VI to VIII) Elementary Stage

CTET Paper II OR Elementary Stage is conducted for a candidate who aims to be a teacher of classes VI to VIII. The main question paper is bilingual i.e. English/Hindi
CTET is conducted twice a year, generally in the months of September and February. The registration for CTET is online through its official website www.ctet.nic.in. The paper is conducted Offline (pen and paper).

  • The test has 5 parts I, II, III, IV, V, consisting of 150 Objective Type Questions.
  • Candidates have to do questions 31 to 90 EITHER from Part II (Mathematics & Science) OR from Part III (Social Studies/Social Science).
  • Part IV contains 30 questions of Language 1 and Part V contains 30 questions of Language II.
  • Candidates can opt for Languages other than English and Hindi for Part IV and V.
  • Candidates are required to attempt questions in Part V in a language other than the one chosen as Language I in Part IV from the list of languages.
  • The languages being answered must tally with the languages opted for in the application form.
  • All questions in CTET exam are Multiple Choice Questions with 4 options/answers out of which only one option/answer is correct.
  • Each question carries one mark.
  • There is no negative marking.

CONTENT OF CTET PAPER 2 (for classes VI to VIII) Elementary Stage

Duration of examination - Two-and-a-half hours

Paper 2 (for classes VI to VIII) Elementary Stage

Child Development and Pedagogy - The questions of Child Development and Pedagogy focus on educational psychology. It helps in understanding theory and applying concepts of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 11-14 year olds. On one side the focus is on understanding the characteristics and needs of varied learners and interaction with them. On the other side the focus is on the attributes and qualities of a good coordinator of learning.

Languages - The questions of Language I focus on the know-how and skills related to the medium of instruction.
The questions in Language II focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.

Mathematics Science and Social Science/Social Studies The questions of Mathematics and Science, and Social Studies/Social Science focus on the concepts, theorms, problem solving aptitude and pedagogical/didactic understanding of the subjects. Student has an option of choosing between "Mathematics and Science" or "Social Science/Social Studies" section. In Mathematics and Science there will be 30 questions of each subject. In Social Science/Social Studies, there will be 60 questions.

The questions in the test for Paper II will be based on the topics prescribed in syllabus of the NCERT/CBSE for classes VI - VIII but their difficulty standard as well as linkages, could be up to the Senior Secondary stage.
