The CTET examination has been introduced to set benchmarks on a national level in the quality of teachers recruited. The exam aims to enhance the teaching standards in central government schools; and now, many private schools are also now looking at CTET results before recruiting their teaching staff. Thus, it has become imperative for aspiring teachers to clear CTET with a good score in order to be placed in a leading school. As CTET exams are approaching in February 2016, we bring you some important tips and tricks that will help you crack the exam with flying colours!
Preparation is the Key to Success – Start preparing for the exams well in advance. With just two months left now, you should be spending a lot of your time studying and preparing for the exam. Get the right books to help you study. Apart from your textbooks, you can buy McGraw Hill Education books or download the app for comprehensive and reliable study materials.
Practice Boosts Confidence Levels – Solve previous years’ question papers in order to understand your level of preparation. When you can get most questions right, it will boost your confidence and motivate you to perform well in the exam.
Understand the Exam Structure – CTET is an offline exam (pen and paper) that is conducted over 150 minutes. There is no negative marking but candidates should not attempt the questions in a hurry as they might lose out on marks this way. There are total 5 sections in the exam and each question will get you 1 mark. Try and solve the questions that you know for sure first, so that you increase your confidence and secure some marks easily. If you don’t know an answer, use the elimination method to eliminate the incorrect answers and you will be closer to finding the correct answer.
Summarize the course into 2 pages – While studying, make precise notes of 2-3 pages for each subject. These will be very helpful during your revision. Highlight all the important terminologies in a different color so that you remember them clearly while solving factual questions in the exam.
Speed Matters – Since the exam is only for 2.5 hours, you must be able to finish your paper or you will lose out on important marks. Start solving mock tests while setting a time limit of 2.5 hours. Maybe in the first few papers you will take a little extra time, but after 5-6 tests, you will definitely be able to complete the paper in 150 minutes. Since there are 150 questions and 150 marks, you have only 60 seconds for each question. Keep this in mind when solving the final paper.
Focus on Pedagogy – Child development and pedagogy is a subject that constitutes 30 marks in the exam. Plus, each subject will have 50% questions from pedagogy. Thus, it is highly important to focus on this topic so that you can attempt more questions and get good results.
Avoid Information Overload – Though it may be tempting to keep studying till the last minute, you shouldn’t overload yourself with information just before the exam. Remember that you can’t study everything at the last minute. Just go through your revision notes, relax, complete your sleep and focus on solving the question paper to the best of your ability.
There is no substitute for hard work and a calm mind during an examination. If you have ample of both, you have nothing to worry about! These simple tips and tricks will help you crack CTET 2016 with great marks and land that dream job in your desired school.
All the best!
